Empowering Innovators: A Glimpse into the wonderful UN Sustainable Development Goals Workshop at K. Ramakrishnan College of Engineering

The 3-hour session held at K. Ramakrishnan College of Engineering for approximately 800 students was a truly transformative experience, leaving an indelible mark on the attendees. It was an eye-opening exploration of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) that encompassed critical aspects of our world, focusing on education, life on land, and life below water. This workshop also underscored the paramount importance of innovation in addressing the challenges faced by the developing world.

The session was initiated with an inspirational address of what it truly means to be an innovator in today’s world. We painted a vivid picture of some of the world’s pressing challenges and the role that the SDGs play in shaping a better future. The takeaway – No matter what career or profession you chose to pursue, you always have the power to be an innovator in your own field to contribute to the community around you. Engineers, adeptly, are innovators who sculpt the world we live in today and the students were inspired to use their skills to also make a social impact in the coming years.

This session was particularly insightful as we discussed the crucial United Nations Sustainable development goals. The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), also known as the Global Goals, are a set of 17 interconnected and universal objectives that were adopted by all United Nations Member States in 2015 as part of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. These goals serve as a shared blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the planet, aiming to address a wide range of global challenges and improve the quality of life for all.

We interacted profoundly with the students, allowing them to actively engage with the SDGs and discuss with their peers. They collectively brainstormed solutions to real-world problems, making connections between the goals, such as understanding how education can combat deforestation and how innovations can protect marine ecosystems. The level of enthusiasm and commitment among the students was truly heartwarming, as they realised their potential as global change-makers.

Something quite wonderful is that we noticed how proactive and determined students already were in fostering environmental awareness and green energy initiatives within the college community. Several students had already taken up leadership roles to help inundate their knowledge of SDGs to their own peers and local community – This thoughtfulness and leadership ability is exactly what we aim to cultivate at Youth Inspire Talks. By the end of our session, we are certain that over hundreds of students were inspired to contribute to transforming their college into a green environment that embodied the significant UN SDG goals in creative ways. The impact of this session will continue to ripple through the lives of these students as they go on to become champion engineers and innovators in the developing world, all in alignment with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals.

Uniting Voices at Govt Higher Sec School Kovilpatii: Breaking Barriers for Rural Students

The session at Govt Higher Secondary School in Kovilpatti, Trichy District, was a profoundly moving and impactful experience that helped students overcome the barriers of communication and language, leaving a lasting impression on the hearts of over 400 students from three schools in the nearby villages.  Located in the remote outskirts, the Govt Higher Secondary School in Kovilpatti, serves as a true beacon of hope for students, allowing them to pursue a deserving education. We at Youth Inspire Talks are incredibly glad to have gotten the opportunity to interact with the young students, inspiring them to voice out their own thoughts and become changemakers for some of the pressing issues in today’s world.

In the next half of our session, we encouraged students to come up to the front of the classroom and speak about any crucial topic that they wanted to share. As each student approached the microphone, their faces displayed a great deal of nervousness, but also great determination. We remember one particular student very clearly – She came up to speak quite confidently, but as soon she noticed the crowd watching her, she was stricken by a sense of immense fear and nervousness. We knew that this fear stemmed from a pressing communication and language barrier that was holding students back from showcasing their truest potential. We encouraged the student to even speak in her own native language to continue her talk. However, what followed was incredibly shocking – The students suddenly gathered her courage and spoke so fluently and powerfully in English, that it left a lasting impact on all of us. What we will never forget are the words she said after her speech – “I was afraid at the start because I have never spoken into a microphone before”. It was deeply moving to us, to realise that we at Youth Inspire Talks are providing deserving students with a platform to voice out their thoughts. With the incredible expanse of technology today, a talk by a student in the remote outskirts of India can be heard all the way across the world in a place like Australia. This is the exact intention behind making Youth Inspire Talks a global movement, and helping connect young people across the world.

The budding students spoke about global topics that had profound relevance in our world today: mental health, self-confidence, safety for women and children, and environmental action. We were astounded by their confidence and clarity, and most of all the incredible knowledge and insights that they had learned independently. Each speaker’s words were a testament to the power of youth voices in addressing global issues. Their speeches did more than just inform; they inspired action, fostering a sense of responsibility and hope among the audience.

We will never forget the immense love that the students showered us with throughout the entire session, and even after it. We are certain that these bright young children will become agents of transformation, embodying the belief that the youth are the catalysts for a brighter, more compassionate, and more aware world. They are proof to the testament that no matter who we are or where we come from, we all have the ability to become a leader for good.

Igniting Entrepreneurial Spirits: A Transformative Workshop for MBA Students at Hallmark Business School

The 3-hour combined session held at M.A.M. School of Engineering and M.A.M. Polytechnic College was a transformative experience that left an indelible mark on over 800 students! Our workshop, which revolved around the crucial theme of “Environment and Climate Change Literacy,” was nothing short of a captivating journey into the world of sustainability, conservation, and global responsibility.

The session commenced with a discussion into some of the most critical skills for entrepreneurs in the 21st century. We discovered how to master the art of communication, networking and storytelling which are all significant soft skills that any young person today must possess. Students were also captivated by the fact that humour is such a powerful tool in the art of effective communication! We had plenty of insightful questions and answers, along with discussions that were initiated by the students. What was wonderful, were the creative examples they came up with to practically put these skills into action! We were astounded by how quickly they could pick up a new skill and leverage it for their self growth and skill development – this is exactly what we intend to do at Youth Inspire Talks.

What was incredibly fun, is that we had an engaging pitch activity too, to help challenge the students and encourage them to showcase their personal skills. Students were tasked with the famous ‘Pitch Me This Pen’ prompt, and what a fantastic activity it was! We listened as students used thoughtful quotes and captivating anecdotes to become persuasive speakers. Some of them told impactful stories by mastering the art of storytelling, while other students leveraged humour to get a good laugh and instil joy in the audience. It was truly wonderful to see how students were much more confident and outgoing by the end of our session, equipped with the tools to become confident leaders. The impact of this session will undoubtedly continue to ripple through their lives as they venture into the world of entrepreneurship and social innovation.
